Chemistry is the Dewey Decimal numbers 540-549. We learn chemistry for fun, like when we make slime, but we also want to learn specific topics to understand our world. At Briarwood our Chemistry standards for learning are informed by the Next Generation Science Standards for Chemistry. Click to read them. They cover Matter and Interactions like ( 2-PS1-4) which tells us that some chemical changes can happen because of heating and cooling and some of those changes cannot be reversed.
The links below and the videos help keep our school's library up to date in chemistry. The Next Generation Science Standards that Briarwood follows cross a lot of areas, life sciences (all life needs chemical changes!) and Earth and Space Sciences. With so much depending on chemistry, let's learn! These websites are trusted places that keep their information current and are safe for children.
Chemistry at Khan Academy can be watched online for free. The site needs a log in to save progress or take a quiz, so talk to an adult if you want to make an account.
Rader's Chem4Kids! explores elements, atoms, reactions, and biochemistry. It's trusted by the American Library Association's Association for Library Service to Children and completely free.
Chemistry videos at the National Science Foundation's Science 360 are a great way to learn more about chemistry.
The video about Helium came from National Geographic. When I share that I leaned information from this video, I write:
